About Laura

I have been a qualified Counsellor since 2011, and my approach is integrative, meaning I tailor my work to meet your individual needs. No two people are the same, and I believe that therapy should be as unique as you are. I draw on different therapeutic techniques, ensuring that you receive the right support for your personal journey.

Alongside my counselling training, I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT), a well-established approach that’s commonly used within NHS and CAMHS services. CBT helps you understand the way your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are connected, and shows you how you can change your thinking to improve your emotional wellbeing. This can lead to a greater sense of control and clarity in your life.

About therapy with Laura:

Supporting Young People:

I am particularly passionate about working with young people. Over the years, I’ve worked in several Secondary Schools as both a counsellor and a pastoral worker. I strongly believe that providing support for young people’s mental health is crucial in helping them build resilience, confidence, and a sense of emotional well-being. I want young people to feel happy, confident, and able to embrace all the opportunities that come with their social and emotional development. I currently work part time in a local school as their School Counsellor.

Supporting Adults:

Working with adults is also incredibly rewarding to me. I feel honoured to walk alongside my clients, supporting them through the ups and downs of life. Every person is unique, and I deeply respect the courage it takes to open up and seek support when life feels challenging. My aim is always to help you navigate life’s difficulties in a way that leaves you feeling more empowered and capable.

Workshops and Special Interests:

Alongside my one-on-one work, I run workshops that support women through the menopause and help parents navigate the often-tricky teenage years. These workshops are an opportunity to connect with others who may be facing similar challenges, and to learn new tools to build resilience, understanding, and stronger relationships.

My Approach to Therapy:

I take a holistic view of mental health, offering support that extends beyond just the immediate issue. I understand that life can be complicated, and that sometimes, everything can feel overwhelming. I’ve had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life, and I am genuinely committed to helping you find your way through difficult times, whatever they may be.

The most common goal I hear from clients is that they simply want to feel better about themselves, and to feel more able to cope with what life throws at them. My role is to walk alongside you, providing a safe space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, and offering tools and strategies that can help you gain clarity, confidence, and emotional balance.

How I Work:

I work with both adults and young people (aged 11 and upwards). If you’re unsure whether therapy might be right for you, I offer a free 20-minute phone or video consultation. This gives us a chance to talk about your concerns and how we might work together. In our first full session, I’ll explain more about how I work, go over the counselling agreement, and we’ll begin to explore what you’d like to focus on. Sessions are 50 minutes long, and I charge my usual rate for this initial meeting (details are provided below).

The number of sessions we work together will be entirely up to you. Some people prefer short-term therapy, others may want longer-term support – it’s all about what works best for you. I work primarily face to face, however I can also work online, if the need arises.
